This is it.

I was outback at work smoking & having a casual conversation with a new employee. He’s an older man hired to do deliveries for our cabinetry. We were talking about dogs, and he asked what kind I had. I responded bullies and he asked what breed. I hesitantly said pit bulls; knowing the kneejerk reaction most people have to those two words together. His response was something along the lines of, “THEY GET A BAD WRAP BECAUSE OF N******.” I was in shock. My response was something like, “Actually, any person can treat animals poorly.” I had no idea how to handle it. I felt like an asshole for not being like, “DON’T SAY THAT BULLSHIT, SIR.” Instead, I semi-tolerated intolerance – which is unacceptable. I came inside and told my co-worker. Luckily, she told his supervisor. I was so embarrassed of my reaction, or lack thereof. I know my face said, “what the fuck did you just say,” but those words did not escape my mouth. And I wish they had.

It took entirely too much effort to get the cat outside, but much more to get her to actually do cat stuff.
